Day 1- Fukuoka

Updated: Dec 5, 2024

On my first day in Japan, I'm heading west to Fukuoka on the island of Kyushu. I have to admit that the journey was pretty exhausting, but the joy of finally arriving made all my fatigue disappear!

Once I'd cleared customs, I went to the station office to pick up my JR Pass. I'd used it in 2020, but I noticed that the system had changed a bit. You used to have to show a document to get into the station, but now you get a ticket that you scan into the machine, a bit like the tube. It's much more convenient!

Once I had my JR Pass, I also booked my train and Shinkansen tickets to Fukuoka. I'm really looking forward to discovering this vibrant city and all its attractions. I'm really looking forward to the adventures that await me!

I invite you to enjoy the beauty of the Japanese countryside and city!

If you get the chance, I highly recommend trying the Starbucks chain in Japan! I don't often go there in France, but the experience here is completely different. I went for a matcha iced latte and the taste was incomparable. It was really delicious! They also have a lot of limited editions that aren't available in France. Our order for two was around €6 (tall size). A great discovery not to be missed!

If you can, I'd also advise you to try Starbucks in Japan! I don't go very often in France, but it's totally different here! I had a matcha iced latte and the taste of the matcha was totally different! It was really good. They also have a lot of limited editions that you can't get in France. The two of us got one for about 6€ (in tall).

In the evening, we decided to stay in the shopping centre next to the station and look for a restaurant for my first proper meal. There were so many options everywhere, it was difficult to choose! I went for the katsudon curry (right), which was really tasty! It was a great way to enjoy Japanese cuisine in a lively setting.

We couldn't resist a dessert at Café Snoopy, mostly because we were craving something sweet, not because we were hungry. This quick sweet break was just what we needed to recharge after a busy day!

I haven't got much to say in today's blog, but it's been a busy day! I'm really looking forward to tomorrow because there's so much to see and do! We're really looking forward to finding out more about this amazing destination. Watch this space for more updates!
