I headed to the airport at first light, keen to get started in Sicily. I've got two flights lined up: first from Genoa to Rome, then from Rome to Catania. I'm really excited!
When I got to Genoa airport, I noticed it looked a bit old-fashioned. It's my first time here, and I find a small airport right by the sea. It's got its own special charm, I have to admit, but I'm a bit worried about flying out of here because it looks a bit old-fashioned.

That said, this retro atmosphere is also part of the experience, right? I'm going to enjoy the unique atmosphere of this place, remembering that every adventure begins with a first step, whether it's flamboyant or marked by time. I'm excited to get going and head for the amazing island that's waiting for me, full of possibilities and new experiences.
After passing through security, I couldn't resist popping into the duty-free shop. It was full of Italian goodies. There was handmade pasta, Genoese pesto and limoncello, so it was a real paradise, especially for an airport that's not too big. Every stall tempted me with its regional delicacies, and I fell head over heels for the gourmet atmosphere!
Before I got on the plane, I had a little goose focaccia, a speciality of Genoa, which was just delicious. It was pure delight and made my airport experience even more enjoyable. It really is the best way to get a taste of the local culture before moving on!

The flight went really well – I was lucky and it was a really pleasant experience. As soon as I got to Rome, I went straight to my connection, ready to get on the next plane. This one was great too, as I got closer and closer to my long-awaited destination.
Arriving at our destination, we headed to the car hire office to collect our seven-seater car, perfect for our group of six. After an hour's drive, we finally arrived at our first stop: the charming B&B 'La Casa Sulla Collina D'oro' in Piazza Armerina.
The drive was a breath of fresh air. Every glimpse of the Sicilian countryside through the rear window was a feast for the eyes. The lush green hills, golden fields and picturesque villages created a breathtaking backdrop and as I looked out I felt transported, full of excitement at the prospect of what awaited us when we got there. Every kilometre I drove sent a shiver of anticipation down my spine and made me feel that the magic of Sicily was waiting for me on the horizon.
As I approached Piazza Armerina, I thought it was a real shame that the buildings were in such a bad state. The nature around was really beautiful and the buildings looked like they were suffering from a lack of maintenance. It's a real shame because these historic buildings had so much potential to tell the story of the region. Still, I hoped that the town still had its charm and treasures hidden behind these slightly worn facades, and exploration promised to be rich in discoveries!
After visiting the B&B, I took my time choosing my room for the night. It was a spacious room, carved out of the stone, with a double bed and two single beds, perfect for sleeping comfortably. And the bathroom, really first class, was carved out of the rock, with an original look. It made my stay really special, I felt the authenticity of the region.
After a short break to recover from the journey, we decided to explore the old town to find somewhere to eat. It was a bit chilly and we were starting to get tired, but I was so happy to be there. Walking through the old streets with all the history and beauty of the city in front of you is really invigorating. I couldn't wait to have a good meal and soak up the local atmosphere!
For dinner we decided to go to the 'Trattoria del Goloso', a restaurant that immediately won us over with its warm atmosphere and the delicious smells coming from the kitchen. As we perused the menu, we were seduced by the classic Sicilian specialities that promised an authentic and exquisite culinary experience. After a day of discovery, we were more than happy to indulge in this moment of pure pleasure.

To start the meal, we chose a selection of antipasti to share, and what a choice! The platter was a veritable feast of flavours, with marinated artichokes that melted in your mouth, perfectly textured panelle, just the right amount of grilled vegetables, a caponata that was a pure sweet and savoury delight, and bruschetta. Each bite was a symphony of flavours that immersed us even more in the local gastronomy.

Another dish that caught my eye was a delicious meat in sauce, apparently made with pistachios, creating a rich, creamy sauce that seemed to melt in the mouth. The presentation was elegant, with the creamy sauce enveloping the meat, adding a visual touch to the appetite.
Each dish seemed to offer a unique experience, illustrating the richness of Sicilian cuisine. It was a true festival of flavours and every bite was a celebration of local culinary traditions. An unforgettable evening full of delights to share!

For the main course, I chose a Sicilian classic that never disappoints: pistachio pasta. Served elegantly, it was generously covered in a creamy, fragrant sauce in which the sweetness of the pistachios mingled with a hint of saltiness. The melt-in-the-mouth pieces of pancetta added depth of flavour, while the crunchy pistachio slivers on top were a feast for the eyes and taste buds.
Every bite was a delight, combining the richness of the ingredients with the simplicity of the local cuisine. It was a true treasure trove of Sicilian cuisine, both sophisticated and comforting. It's a culinary experience not to be missed on any visit to Sicily!

What can I say about this dish that caught my eye? A succulent meat in a sauce, prepared with tasty pistachios, creating a creamy sauce that seemed to melt in the mouth. After a delicious dinner we headed back to our B&B, happy and satisfied. We needed a good night's sleep to recharge our batteries. Tomorrow a new adventure awaited us: a visit to the Villa Romana del Casale, famous for its impressive mosaics, followed by a trip to the city of Agrigento, famous for its ancient temples.
We couldn't wait to discover these historical treasures and immerse ourselves in Sicilian culture. See you tomorrow for more explorations et souvenirs à créer !
